Strongly influenced by many features of the Old State House, the Horace Bushnell Memorial Hall was built in 1930 in the Georgian Revival style by Dotha Bushnell Hillyer as a living memorial to her father, the Reverend Dr. Horace Bushnell (1802–1876), a Hartford minister, theologian, philosopher and civic leader. Today, "The Bushnell" remains one of Hartford’s main performing arts venues.
