THE ART

Hudson River Downtown Triptych, 2010

Oil on canvas

Hudson River Downtown Triptych is a view of the Hudson River at the tip of lower Manhattan, NY. Painting the Hudson River from upstate inspired Diana Kurz to portray another aspect of the river. Several years ago, she spent a summer day and evening on a boat on the Hudson River anchored not far from downtown Manhattan. She found the water views and skyline fascinating. She was intrigued by the verticality of the buildings and the density of the city view in contrast with the horizontal feeling and spaciousness of the river. She emphasized the rhythm of the skyline against the horizontal and slower movement of the water and sky.
